Megaphone urgently needs your help to raise the remaining $15,000 needed this Spring so together we can CELEBRATE the 20th Anniversary of Hope in Shadows and continue offering life-changing opportunities to people facing poverty, inadequate housing, substance use and other marginalizing barriers.
MAKE A DONATION TO SUPPORT HOPE IN SHADOWS TODAY

“Hope in Shadows is something I respect because it helped me through the tough times and gave me the confidence to really come out of my shell. Hope in Shadows has helped me to bloom into the person I was meant to be.” — Peter Thompson, Megaphone vendor, storyteller and photographter

Since we launched our Spring Campaign to raise $30,000 in late April, generous donors have helped us reach the halfway mark and made the 20th Anniversary Hope in Shadows community photo contest possible.
Megaphone saw over 80 people from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside attend a free photography workshop and head off with a single-use camera to capture an award winning Hope in Shadows photo on this year’s theme of “celebrate”!
It was an exciting contest launch day that saw everyone from long-time to brand-new participants come together to consider what the theme of “celebrate” means to them.
Prisicillia Mays Tait and Mike McNeeley (Megaphone vendors, storytellers and award winning Hope in Shadows photographers) lead groups through photography workshops that they developed under the mentorship of professional photographer Diana More.
So what’s next?

Over the next week, community jury members — including Elders, past Hope in Shadows winners, Megaphone supporters and sponsors — will come down to Megaphone’s Vendor Hub to narrow down over 1500 contest entries to the Top 30 Photos.
Stay tuned because it will then be your turn to view and vote on the photos you think should be in the 2022/2023 Hope in Shadows calendar.
We need your help to raise the last $15,000 to ensure that Megaphone vendors, storytellers and Hope in Shadows photo contest participants and calendar winners are supported into and beyond Hope in Shadows’ 20th anniversary year.

Between now and the launch of the 20th Anniversary Hope in Shadows calendar, Megaphone will: train and retrain over 175 vendors, offering ongoing self-determined creative opportunities throughout the summer; create paid mentorship opportunities for long-time Hope in Shadows vendors to support incoming peers; and engage Megaphone vendors and Hope in Shadows photo contest participants to tell their powerful stories of hope, courage, family and friendship.
Would you consider joining Megaphone today by making a donation to ensure that Hope in Shadows can continue supporting marginalized people into its 20th Anniversary and beyond?
Let’s put hope in focus.
