Vancouver's Poet Laureate, Evelyn Lau, on why Megaphone's community writing workshop program is so important to marginalized voices:

"I think it's fantastic that there are free writing workshops available to residents of the Downtown Eastside. Emerging writers are always hungry for feedback and direction; these workshops provide a much-needed sense of support and encouragement, as well as professional guidance, for people in this community who are determined to tell their stories."

Megaphone runs a series a writing workshops in treatment centres, social housing buildings and community centres in the Downtown Eastside and downtown Vancouver. Many of the stories and poems from these workshops are published in Megaphone Magazine.
