In order for Megaphone to keep its community writing workshop program running, we set a fundraising goal of $5,000 this spring. We are oh so close. So far we have raised $4,200 and are just a few hundred dollars short of our goal.
Please help Megaphone reach it's writing workshop goal by making a donation today. If you require a tax receipt, you can make a cheque out to 'Hope in Shadows' and mail it to:

Megaphone runs nine writing workshops in treatment centres, social housing buildings and community centres in the Downtown Eastside and downtown Vancouver for marginalized writers. Along with offering these writers a therapeutic and creative outlet, many of these powerful stories and poems are published in Megaphone.
"I never used to write; I never quite knew how," says Sarah Oulette, who is a Megaphone writing workshop participant. "After learning all kinds of writing styles, I find myself now releasing myself through a simple pen and paper. To someone like me, having extra outlets is the very key to learning to live all over again. I love attending Megaphone's writing group."
Last month, Megaphone released a very special 'Voices of the Street' literary issue. This 68-page edition of the magazine exclusively featured content from our writing workshop. Being published in a high-quality literary magazine gave our writers a big boost to their self-esteem, our vendors a special product to sell, and our readers a better understanding about poverty, addiction, sex work and mental illness.
Earlier this month Megaphone held a launch event for this issue and invited published writers to read their work live (pictured above). It was an incredibly emotional night that helped show Vancouver what is possible when we give people their voice. With your help, we can more marginalized writers in Vancouver a voice.
