Megaphone’s homeless and low-income vendors buy each copy of the magazine for 75 cents and sell them on the streets of Vancouver for $2. They keep the profits. The job allows them to earn an income with dignity and gives them the opportunity they need to put their lives back on track.
“I was on disability and unemployed, but then I started selling Megaphone,” says vendor Peter Thompson. “Now I can earn an income.”
Many of Megaphone’s vendors struggle with homelessness, poverty, addiction or mental health issues. Selling the street paper builds their self-esteem and gives them the chance to succeed.
When you purchase a copy of Megaphone from one of our vendors, you are supporting them as they work to earn an income and turn their lives around.
UPDATE: On Tuesday, December 13th, Megaphone will be downtown at the corner of Granville and Hastings from 5-6 p.m., projecting the video of Patrick (see below).
