Megaphone #140: Girls, Interrupted: Street entrenchment and violence are still daily facts of life

Girls are a minority in Vancouver's inner city, but growing up female adds extra vulnerability to a population already straining under poverty, precarious housing, trauma and addictions. In Megaphone #140, we look at the extra pressures facing girls in the Downtown Eastside, and the services helping them grow up safe.

Also in this issue: New housing data looks positive for Vancouver, but digging deeper shows how unaffordable the "most livable city" is becoming; Megaphone vendor Kris Cronk reflects on a painful childhood of loss and isolation; a new report shows elderly women worry about poverty and income security more than anything else; arts listings; poetry and prose from our writing workshops; and much more!
