With the start of 2016 comes new plans and goals for Megaphone's own Teresa
Vendor Teresa shares her dreams for 2016
“In the New Year, I hope to make more money and get a driver’s license. These days, I’m reading books about how to drive. I’m hoping to spend more time with my safe driving guide and pass the test to get my learner’s license. I’m also reading the “Tune-up for Drivers” book, which also teaches people how to drive.
“My boyfriend drives a car, and I’m trying to learn how to drive too. I never feel scared about driving. I have so much confidence when I’m driving!
“I would like to go to New York. I’ve never been but I know it’s a really nice place. There are different churches there; I would like to visit the churches there. I would also like to go to Colorado. Closer to home here in Canada, I would like to visit Quebec and learn French.
“I like selling Megaphone because the hours are flexible for me to work. That helps me. I can sell anytime. Other jobs don’t fit my schedule, but Megaphone and Hope in Shadows fit my schedule because I can work anytime that I like.
“I tell my customers that Hope in Shadows are photographs of people in the Downtown Eastside, showing how people’s lives are, so they know what’s going on. Not a lot of people know what’s going on.
“In addition to reading my driving books, I’ve been taking some courses. I like writing courses. I was in Community Journalism 101 and I’ve been thinking about taking a Megaphone writing workshop at the LifeSkills Centre. I would like to learn how to write really well. I want to read a lot of books.
“Outside of work, I like to go for walks and go grocery shopping. I’m still making art. I like to stay active by walking outside. I also like to write in my journal so I can know what to do every day, and what to do the next day.”
“I’m excited for the year ahead.”
